Raise gasoline tax? What are they thinking?

Last night I came across an article titled : Raise gasoline tax by 10 cents, Congress urged (photo credit as well)

I'm baffled. I agree that the US enjoys a low gasoline tax, but right now isn't the time to raise gasoline prices, which is effectively what they'll do when they raise taxes. It's simply a horrible idea! Unemployment is very high and consumer confidence is lowering day by day. With the demand of gasoline dropping, sure you need to find a way to finance road improvements already promised, but not through gas tax increases.

Gasoline prices are a welcomed relief, and for some families, the only thing keeping them in their home and not defaulting. For businesses, it is what has saved them from losing money on shipping costs. As a matter of fact, the gas price increases are what raised food costs, postage, and other basics. Where are those reliefs? (sidebar i guess)

When are the politicians going to cut programs lower in priority? At this point, this is what needs to happen. A priority list. Does congress have one? no. Maybe you can't cut some programs, but you can shift funding biased off of priorities, because after all, when you are dealing with money, it's a business.

Funny how the congress members can raise their pay when the economy is better, but not consider lowering in for not getting us out of a slump. I guess it's a crazy idea to provide your citizens the same benefits and retirement plans that you have.

My call to action is this: fire every person on that panel with that recommendation, because they obviously can afford gas for quite a while.

I totally agree with your points here! They must be crazy to think about raising anything at this time...I really hope that it won't pass!

Agreed. They must re-allocate money at this point, rather than raise taxes.
